Don Fiskars of Fiskars Total Construction found the HIGH-R insulation system as the best solution for the Georgia-Pacific Gypsum transfer tunnel room. The problem was condensation due to inadequate r-values and ventilation.   Georgia-Pacific wanted to eliminate the condensation and enhance the working conditions in the space. Fiskars Total Construction installed an upgraded ventilation system that included several large ceiling fans to keep the air moving in the space. Wall exhaust fans were also added to exchange the air and expel the moisture from the process. The fact that the HIGH-R system could be installed from the bottom and the roof panels would not need to be disturbed was a great asset.

During the install of the HIGH-R system Georgia-Pacific remained in production and the install crew maneuvered between the moving equipment and installed the system. Articulated bucket lifts and scissor lifts were used to access the ceiling and the walls. The existing vinyl scrim was removed and disposed. The majority of the existing fiberglass insulation was left in tact and the cavity was then filled with blown fiberglass insulation. The end result was an effective r-value of R-42 for both the ceiling and the walls. The existing pinched batt insulation was performing at R-7. The projected energy savings is $1,800 per month with a return on the investment in the HIGH-R insulation system of less than four years compared to the cost of the existing pinched fiberglass batting.

The other advantages of reflectivity and cleanability made for a vastly improved working environment for the employees.
